It was an honour to design a book that encompasses the history of one of the oldest art fairs in Europe – the prolific Art Athina, established by the Hellenic Art Galleries Association in 1993. Our goal was to create a publication that stands as a monumental artefact, a testament to thirty years of creative synergy. A conceptual vessel of memories, events, people, and moments.
The challenge was to find an adaptable system that could accommodate the huge volume of archival material: catalogues, memos, press cuttings, bulletins, lists, photographs, posters, logos, and much more. We created a versatile, modular grid to consistently display all available content, regardless of quality or deficiencies. This delicate grid keeps the information in place, a reference to traditional documentation methods.
A sea of exuberant colours and shapes unfolds through the pages. In response to the miscellaneous content, we created an amalgam of different typographic styles – from archival monospaced to playful serifs and bold grotesque fonts. The simple but memorable black and white cover is offset by a one-metre-long bookmark: a colourful snapshot of Art Athina logos over the years.
